I?d been asked a few times if I wanted to have a baby shower, and each time I pretty much shrugged it off. It?s my second baby, and my second boy on top of that, so I just assumed I didn?t get one. Well, imagine my surprise when I got an e-mail from my mom, offering to throw me a virtual baby shower from home! I thought, well, what the heck. Let?s do it!
So I went ahead to start up my registry online. And then I realized something. All the things I need for Wyatt are the big items: a crib, a dresser/changing table, a new car seat, a double stroller, and bedding. We already have everything else. I saved all of Ben?s clothes, we have bottles, we have a bassinet. So I sent my mom an e-mail, somewhat apologizing, but what could I do? She told me to register for what I needed, and I did.
I still felt bad though, so I made sure to register for some smaller things. I put a tummy time mat on the list, a little skin care kit, some bath items. And I also added diapers. I didn?t register for diapers before because I figured it was a given, but this time around, I needed to get some inexpensive things on there, and I can always use diapers. I?m sure people will buy clothes too, which is fine, but that?s one of those things I didn?t really think I needed to register for clothes. People will buy those on their own, and who knows if the clothes I register for would still be available in a month or so when people go to buy them?
The other thing I didn?t think of: everything that isn?t purchased off my registry, I get at a discount! So hey, who cares if no one buys the big stuff? I?ll get it for cheaper now. And there?s no complaining about that!
I have to admit, I am pretty excited that I get to have another baby shower. I honestly just didn?t expect to have one this time around, and gifts aside, it?s nice to have a day to just celebrate the fact that there is a new life coming into the world.
