Mizdirection was 20-1 in the morning line for Saturday?s $1 million Breeders? Cup Turf Sprint, but the 4-year-old filly went off at just under 7-1 odds. Co-owner Jim Rome, the sports-talk magnate whose horses run under the name Jungle Racing, was asked if his daily radio show?s legion of followers known as ?The Clones? had hammered her at the betting windows.
?I don?t think they can get 20-1 down to 5-1,? he said to laughter in the post-race press conference. ?I love my clones, and they have my back. But they don?t roll like that. I got a feeling there people knew she was not a 20-1 horse, and they knew she was live.?
Still, Rome said the race left him numb.
?I?m having a hard time believing that just happened,? he said. ?? I talked to Bobby Flay on my radio show earlier in the week and I said, ?You?ve been there before, you know what it?s like.? And he said, ?I?m here to tell you that outside the birth of my daughter, it was the single most exhilarating moment of my entire life. I would say the same, but I?m too numb to even know how it feels. If you would ask me tomorrow, I think I would have a better idea. But I?ve got a feeling my answer might be pretty close to his.?
