Dundee Business School launches Developing Talent Initiative

A new initiative to support Scottish businesses in developing the creative leaders of the future launches tonight (Wednesday 24 October) at the University of Abertay Dundee.

Dundee Business School is hosting an interactive evening to kick off its Developing Talent Initiative, which is aimed at assisting companies in developing the skills and capabilities of their workforce that are needed to face the complex business challenges of the future.

A key focus of Dundee Business School is innovation in business education and workforce development, areas that are central to the Developing Talent Initiative.

Professor Sabine Hotho, Head of Dundee Business School, said:

?Scotland needs innovative, creative companies that can overcome the uncertain economic environment and the business challenges of the future.

?That all starts with individual employees and their ability to adapt, learn and bring creative new ideas to their companies. Organisations have a pool of talent among their workforce, and this talent pool needs development and nurturing. At Dundee Business School we are keen to work with businesses on practical ways of developing that talent through combining academic and practice perspectives.

?Effective learning takes place in the workplace, and our approach to business education means exactly that: make the workplace your place of study, and gain academic credit and support as you tackle a work challenge. The new Developing Talent Initiative is focused on encouraging new ways of thinking about effective workforce development.?

Organisations attending the launch event at Dundee Business School include V&A at Dundee, Blackadders, Thorntons, Dundee City Council, Perth & Kinross Council, Stoneridge Electronics and the Scottish Institute for Enterprise.

Professor Hotho added:

?There are no easy solutions to the complex problems facing the economy, but a partnership approach between businesses and universities can deliver benefits for everyone.

?Coupled with our commitment to delivering business education in the workplace, the Developing Talent Initiative is the start of an important journey to unleash the potential of Scotland?s employees, businesses and broader economy.?

The launch event will feature an overview of the challenges involved in workforce development, followed by short practical sessions led by academic experts in human resources, marketing and business innovation.

The Developing Talent Initiative is part of Dundee Business School?s commitment to applied learning, which includes the option for employees to study while they work ? gaining new skills, a business qualification, and expert input on a major project at work.
