MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. ? Timothy Francis Shannon, 61, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C. Tim was born Dec. 11, 1949, in Bangor, a son of the late Earl Shannon and the late Marvel Washburn Shannon.
Tim was a 1968 graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School, Bangor. After graduating Tim enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from 1968 to 1972. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served one tour with the 101st Airborne Division. Tim later received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maine and his master?s degree from Antioch University. He worked many years as a teacher in the special education department and also practiced as a psychoanalyst in Indian Island. Tim was an outdoors enthusiast who enjoyed everything nature had to offer. His family will always remember him as a loving father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents; his two sisters, Sally Williams and Kathy Lou Shannon, predeceased him. Tim is survived by his children, Kathleen Elizabeth Shannon and her husband, Nathan Elser, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and Matthew Shannon and his wife, Paula, of Orono; and his grandchildren, Camryn Shannon Elser, Noah John Elser and Logan Shannon.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. McMillan-Small Funeral Home is serving the family. An online register is available at
